THEME: Tool Holders
This month we get organized and learn to work with cloth and/or leather to make one (or several) of the following projects. Some patterns and ideas will be presented in week one. Some of the ideas are:
Tool rollups
• Need a way to store and transport metal files, knitting needles, paint brushes, pencils for your sketch group? Creating either a cloth or leather rollup will help you get organized and make it easier to transport your tools.
Utility belts
• These can be made of cloth or leather. They can be made as tool belts, gardening belts, painting belts, etc. They can be made modular by creating items that slip over a belt and so they can be reconfigured in any order, or they can be part of one unit.
Binders
• Cloth or leather covered binders that have pouches in them to store the things you need to carry around and not lose or misplace.
SCHEDULE:
o Week 1 (March 1): Design
Create the measurements for your project and pick the materials that it will be made out of. Bring in the tools that you want to include in your project to measure. Butcher block paper will be provided to use to make your patterns or templates. Other members can advise you and help you select what type of material might be best for your project.
o Week 2 (March 8): Get Started
Bring your materials and your patterns and get your project started. If you need help with sewing techniques or leather techniques, there will be people that can assist you and help you learn.
o Week 3 (March 15): Work
This week will be a work week or can be a time to design or get started on a second or first project in this category.
o Week 4 (March 22): Work
This week will be a work week or can be a time to design or get started on a second or first project in this category.
o Week 5 (March 29): Finish
We will finish our projects this week and spend some time talking about the next month's theme, materials and techniques to see where people's main interests are.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You are always more than welcome to come up on Monday nights with your own personal projects and work on them with everyone! People will be there from 7-9pm at a minimum (most likely later).
