It's that time again. One week until the next 2600 meeting. Who's got
something to present? I know Paul and I will be recording the next episode
of Anonymous Audio for the meeting.

I can get 9.2 easily enough, but 9.1 was built to stand on its own, whereas 9.2 was meant as legacy support during the switch to X.

Dan volunteered at the last open house. He is starting an organization
called Openly Disruptive. Their Facebook tagline says "Openly Disruptive is
all about the junction where art, technology, and context meet in our
evolving world. We're for people that want to define the future, not be
victims of it."
Dan recently sent out an email calling for "Noted Disruptors" to be
highlighted on the website. Please read on, as I believe that there are
likely people that fit this description in our group. I'd love if we could
support this organization... maybe have some events at our space. I'd like
to have Dan come in and talk to the whole group about it on a Tuesday if
people are interested. Let me know what you think. It would be a good org
to align ourselves with, as we could be the workshop for people that are
involved with these challenges or programs.... and give another good org PR
in the process.
********************************************************************
Sorry for the mass e-mail. You are some of the many people I’ve met over
the last year as we’ve developed Openly Disruptive. It started out as
something called The Gateway Challenge - the idea was to find ways to pair
artists and technology people to do interesting collaborative projects that
help create an innovative culture.
Since then the concept has evolved to become Openly Disruptive; our tagline
is “The future will be what we make it”. We start public programs this fall
– our first one is Mining for Meaning. Working with the Craft Alliance, Jon
Armstrong of Cofactor Genomics and the RCGA’s Initiative for Creative
Comebacks, we’re going to let artists, hackers, crafters, designers,
programmers, puzzle-geeks, and geneticists explore new ways to interact with
and express genetic data (check out this story about Cofactor’s work with
Ozzie Osbourne):
http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/stories/2010/06/28/daily6.html?ana=e_du_pap
As we launch our events, we’re also getting our website up to speed. A
major part of the website will be dedicated to the work of what we’re
calling Noted Disruptors – people doing amazing work in technology, media,
the arts, conceptual thinking, innovation, visualization or creativity. If
you or someone you know has done work that you’d like to show off, send the
following info by Friday August 6th to be featured:
A visual representation of the work – photo, graphic, sketch, rendering,
flowchart, etc.
A brief description of the work and how it is unique, innovative, and
exciting.
A URL for where you want the work to link to on the web – your website etc.
Contact information so we can work out the details
We’ll try to use as many submissions as possible. For more ideas on what
might work, visit us at www.facebook.com/openlydisruptive. Forward this
email to the people you know that are doing the best work. If you want to
be involved in ways beyond showing off your work, let me know. We need help
with event planning and organization, website design and programming,
program development and a host of other areas where you can meet and work
with some very cool people.
We’ll be starting an e-newsletter soon to keep everyone informed. In the
meantime, follow us on Facebook.
We’ve got some talented people here – let’s make sure the world knows it!
Dan Reus - Founder
Openly Disruptive
The future will be what we make it.

Hey y'all. This is a bit off topic for this list... sorry in advance. I am
driving out to Burning Man here in about a month. I am hoping to haul a
trailer with mine and other people's stuff. Does anyone know someone that
has a utility trailer that I can borrow or rent? It will cost me about $300
to rent and open 5 X 9 trailer from UHaul for 11 days and I am hoping to
find one cheaper than that.
Let me know if you have any ideas or leads.
Thanks!

I'll bring it up to the space tonight. Both are brand new and reasonably
current. I don't have a HP anymore or a 2100 LJ.
I only opened the bag for the cartridge to see what model it was for.
Docking station here:
http://www.norsystems.net/cgi-bin/p?showItemDetails=1&itemno=hpTc4200dock
No power supply with it, though.
If you have any 2g iPhone parts, I'll trade for those, but if not, no
biggie. :)

Hello all!
After my last posting about the local game dev competition, I received a good deal of feedback on how people would like a contest, or some development event, to go. In that vein, we've restructured the game development contest into a different type of beast.
On August 13th-15th we'll be hosting the STL Game Jam. It was pointed out that the time frame was not optimal for getting people involved, and that the competition aspect may raise the barrier for entry into the competition. As such, we've made it into a collaborative, weekend event where people can get together to build videogames.
The details and formal announcement can be found at the worldki blog. If you have any feedback, please let me know. We've gotten registration rolling and have already found more interest in this style of project than the last. I hope some of you can join in the fun!
Thanks,
Samuel

I have several LCD's, some touch screen, that have various issues.
Mostly I think bad integrated power supplies. If anyone can help me
diagnose and fix them, I'll give at least one to the space, even if
only one can be fixed.

Just a reminder:
Tomorrow, July 13th, we have "Show and Tell" scheduled instead of a
regular business meeting. Bring in the projects you want to show off

1: Hitler. 2. Godwin. 3: End :)
Being less flippant, Yeah- I saw some intentional constructive
direction potential in the Zeroth post.
Speaking as one who fondly recalls the CBBS ancestry of "keyboard
mediated discussions" it's between amusing to merely sad... watching
some train wrecks that simply could have been avoided. IIRC that
Before Godwin. the simpler rule was:
"Thou shall make no Ad Hominen etc comments lest they be vanished.."

Keep it public. It hasn't gone into anything personal. If we can't show
that we can jovially resolve our differences without disecting the meaning
of words and their context, then how can we preserve the harmony in the
forums?

Slightly outdated... but not bad.
what can we edit for this to make it more accurate?
Are you a self-described ‘techie’ that is looking for your niche? Arch
Reactor, St. Louis’ only Hackerspace is a co-op workshop and club for
techies, tinkers and free thinkers. Part arts and technology
clubhouse, part training ground for new skills and knowledge, Arch
Reactor is a place for St. Louis residents to share and receive
educational information and training on various topics and skills with
access to the tools you otherwise couldn't afford on your own. We
offer a work space for all kinds of artistic and technologic pursuits.
Arch Reactor started as a wish in June of 2009 with a bunch of people
meeting at a pizza place to work out how we could make this great idea
happen in St. Louis. Fast forward to December 2009 and we have a good
sized room in a 130+ year old Lemp Brewery building! Growing fast,
we've now moved to an even larger space in the Jefferson Underground
building.

I found some extensions that make the move to chromium (the open

by making chromium behave more like FireFox, as well as some I've
found super handy as well and thought I'd share. Why move to

Cycle through your most recently used tabs (MRU) like Alt+Tab, but,
with the shortcut keys Ctrl+Q or Ctrl+`(~) or assign your own!
Why?
- a poorly behaving webpage doesn't lock up the whole browser, you can
even kill and reset a single page
- extensions have less impact on memory usage, from my observations
- if you have a netbook, much better use of screen real estate
- multithreaded javascript is rather awesome, restoring several tabs
takes far less time. gmail or facebook churning away eating cycles in
the background don't slow up other pages either. Same with flash
applets.
- webkit (the rendering engine) is the future, like gecko was a few
years ago, except with multiple deep pocketed companies backing it

Hey guys,
I don't normally do things like this but I could really use your support. For those of you who don't know me too well, I run a nonprofit website, Gigoit.org, that connects people who have items to give away with local recipients in need.
Pepsi has selected our nonprofit, Gigoit.org, as a candidate to win a grant of $250,000. If we win, Gigoit will be able to expand its services and provide an easy to use method of donating items to your neighbors, schools and local charities. We estimate that our new site will help save about 1.8 million usable items from the landfills, each year.
I'm counting on your support.
To help, simply visit http://pep.si/9W7Lu7 and click on the "Vote for this idea" button. It is absolutely free to cast your vote, takes only a few seconds, and you can vote once a day until July 31st. Please, tell your friends and forward this to anyone who can help. We need your votes!
Thanks in advance!

Hey guys,
This is just an event heads up. I know that some of you are into Audio
Visual Media as a business or would like to be. The MCA is one of the
big professional organizations of the industry in the St. Louis area.
I used to go to these meetings regularly. They can be quite boring.
But, the people that attend it are often very connected. If you are
looking for an environment to network with other AV media people in St
Louis, this would be a good event to attend. Bring business cards.
Not a bad organization to join. But, you probably would do better
saving your money for equipment or other resources. Depends on you
point of view.

Coming Thursday, July 15...
MCA INVITES YOU TO THE BIG BASH
-- THE BIGGEST BUSINESS NETWORKING EVENT OF THE YEAR
by Mike Ketcher
On Thursday, July 15, hundreds of St. Louis business professionals, from at
least a dozen different organizations, will gather at the famous Cabanne House
in Forest Park to eat, drink, and exchange business cards. The host
of the event is the St. Louis Ambassadors.
Since MCA doesn't usually schedule an event of our own in July, we
thought it would be great to join forces with the other professional groups
taking part in the Big Bash -- the biggest business networking event of
the year. These groups include the St. Louis chapter of Yellow-Tie
International, Public Relations Society of America, the American
Marketing Association, and the Missouri Venture Forum, among others.
The cost is only $15 ($20 at the door), and that includes all the
beer, wine, and food
you want, as well as some superb local musical entertainment. I went to
it last year and had a blast -- it's a great opportunity to meet and
mingle with people, not only in your own industry, but outside of it. You
can make some tremendous business connections here -- or just have
a good time.
The event will be held, rain or shine. In the event of bad weather,
we'll simply
gather in tents and inside the historic Cabanne House. Several St. Louis
television stations will be covering the event. If there's ever been
a must-attend
business networking event in St. Louis, this is it.
To register -- and get the low $15 ticket -- simply go to www.bigbash.org.
Scroll down the list of participating organizations, click on the circle in
front of Media Communications Association, scroll down and fill
in the company name you want on your nametag, then scroll down
again and click on the yellow "Pay Now" tab. You can pay using any
major credit card. All funds will go to pay for costs of the event,
and any extra will go to a local charity.
Parking is available on Lindell and in Forest Park. You'll receive an
e-mail just before the event which will have information on a shuttle
bus to nearby parking lots.
Business attire -- meaning whatever you normally wear to work
-- is the dress of the day, as this is mostly an outdoor event.
Reserve your spot
today, and be part of the premier business-connection event of the season!
DATE: Thursday, July 15
PLACE: Cabanne House, 5300 Lindell Blvd. (near Union), Forest Park, 63112
TIME: 5:30 PM until 9:00 PM
COST: $15 in advance; $20 at the event
To sign up in advance, or to find out more, go to www.bigbash.org, and sign up
by clicking on Media Communications Association. Advance
registration will end at 5:00 PM the day before the event (July 14), so
make your reservations now.

Web hosting was mentioned in another thread, specifically dreamhost. I've been using them for a number of years now. They offer discounts for new sign-ups:
http://www.techooze.com/ultimate-list-dreamhost-promo-codes-2010/
I don't know if the user-created promo codes work any more, but if they do you should be able to use the promo code "archreactor" to get $97 off a year of service. I don't get paid for this, I just like their service.

Hi Folks,
We recently moved our office and lost our warehouse space and as a result I have a Blue-M Temperature Chamber (hot / cold / humidity) for sale.
It was in working condition when we received it, but we never used it. It is all stainless steel for the chamber area, has dual doors on the outside and an inner clear door. It has several ports on the side for instrumentation access and has a polar chart recorder built-in on the side.
It needs 240VAC, not sure of the amperage requirements but it has one of those circular twist-lock plugs on it. I think it might be 30A.
I've included two photos. The top photo is the whole unit with a barstool for scale, and the bottom one is the interior with a CDROM drive on the top shelf for scale.
This thing must move now. It is on a pallet and will need a truck. It is in Chesterfield Valley. Price is negotiable but we're asking $250, which is a bargain for someone that needs equipment like this. If you are interested, please call 636-530-6046 extension 1006 ASAP.
Thanks!

I have the 24 servos, the lexan, and the electronics needed for this project I just needed someone with a cnc machine or possibly a laser to help me cut out the pieces. Also I don't think my servos are just his size and shape so we may have to modify for mine a little.

The big G book provides many mechanical and electromechanical items
that at one time came with detailed enough info for photocopying spec
sheets AS much of the "build instructions. And the SK/EGC books often
were invaluable for reverse engineering undocumented hardware. Like
finding out that the convergence IC in a Projo set was orginally
designed as an audio amplifier. And from that - we'd dig thru our
graveyard of scavenged crud- find a convergence board with an IC that
could be *replaced by* the same SK/ECG # part. Which of course, was
betting a hell of a lot on the multi-cross selected part really
being 100% interchangeable.. With really expensive fireworks from
mistakes. So, learn from MY mistakes and read the fine print of part
ratings before you find out that an ECG 89 swaps for a 2SDXXX but a
2SDXXY cannot replace an ECG 89.
Working a service bench for 40% of the PAID labor billing drastically
changes how you approach repairs :>
The "Reason" I've shared my experience pints about this? Some folks
are having avoidable weirdness with MakerBot components. Taking a
deeper look at *ALL* the parameters of a part before subbing from a
Catalog can be the difference between smooth, painless projects, or
sheer hell.. Which BtW- is why we spent the money on ECG 89's instead
of Dalbani's house numbered crap.

Hi All,
Congratulations on the popular (and sultry) Open House yesterday! It is an
impressive feat to compete for popularity with a gaggle of painted-up,
(semi-) nude activists on bikes.
I've posted a PDF of my presentation here on the Wasabi site:
http://sites.google.com/site/wasabinetwifi/Home/files/ArchReactorpresentation6-19-20.pdf?attredirects=0&d=1
Will there be web space on archreactor.org (e.g. the Wiki) for everyone who
presented yesterday to publish materials or links?
Have a good Sunday!
P.S. I realized I neglected to include Arch Reactor on the "Thanks" page of
my presentation. This has been fixed!
